To be present to this season’s wisdom, to witness this year even wildly than the last, and to savour each gift in it’s season.
An Invitation
The seasons are always shifting, at times imperceptibly slow, and at other times too fast to take in. For me and many others i know, the turning of Winter into Spring is long anticipated, tasted and dreamed before it’s arrival like hungry bellies craving the bread they can smell cooking. For weeks i have stared at the ground, willing the tiny glossy green shoots of Few-flowered Leek to push up large enough for me to harvest, and now that it has begun i can feel the tug of the reins from the wild horse that is the wheel of the year, and i set my intention. To be present to this season’s wisdom, to witness this year even wildly than the last, and to savour each gift in it’s season. And i welcome you to come along with me.
Wild Hygge
I started the Wild Hygge group at the end of last year, and after deep Winter’s rest, it now starts back up again. The first session is next Sunday 18th Feb, from 2pm. This group is open to anyone, aimed at adults but older children (9+) are welcome to join you too. The pace is gentle, we meet in circle, there is always tea, there is usually a fire, and i lead some seasonal activities that help to engage, inspire and connect with Nature. Here are some views of December’s Wild Hygge:
What’s Hygge?
Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) is a Danish word that has no direct translation into English but roughly means ‘spending cozy time with people you care about’. Principles of hygge are: candles or firelight, staying warm and cozy, hot drinks and tasty food, and simple, unplugged, rustic living - all alongside friends and community. I chose the name as it embodies so much of what people are looking for in our modern world, and it’s the space i want to be in too!
Wild Hygge Dates and Booking 2024
To book a spot at any of the Wild Hygge sessions, please email me directly on woodland-jo@outlook.com, or reply to this email if you are reading it from your inbox. The exchange is £12 per session; i operate a pay-it-forward model for my business, so by paying this amount you enable others on a low or no income to join the community too. If you have any need for a discount there is no need to tell me, just pay what you can. When you email to book i will send you my bank details, or you can let me know you’re bringing cash on the day.
See you round the fire
Jo
In the garden the chives and Kyoto onions I planted are shooting. I know they aren’t wild as such, but it shows the season is about to burst upon us.
