you need only be still for a few moments to realise how busy the wild world is becoming as it wakes up
March is upon us, and with relief each morning i see sunlight when i wake up and stirrings all around me. Trees that flower before they leaf like Willow, Wych Elm and Blackthorn and all in bloom, and are startlingly beautiful on clear sunny days. I had a beautiful encounter with 2 sandy-coloured, white-tummied stoats on the allotment last week, and song thrushes are singing their unique mixed-tape tunes from the topmost branches of the bare trees. The slight warmth and patches of sunshine mean I can linger on walks now and sit for a few minutes - you need only be still for a few moments to realise how busy the wild world is becoming as it wakes up.
And I am beginning to stir too. I have a Wild Hygge group in 2 weeks, on Sunday 17th March 2-4pm. We will be making Brigid’s Crosses out of rushes, and enjoying a cleansing Cleavers drink. Fresh intentions and bright shades of green as we meet in good company. Please email me to book your spot for March’s session, or any of the other months.
Foraging Season
It’s time for foraging to begin in earnest now, and I will shortly be announcing some dates for foraging walks. Eating wild plants is a brilliant way to connect with Nature and our local landscapes, it’s fantastic for your health to increase the diversity in your diet and wild foods contain far more nutrients and vitamins than cultivated fruit and veg do. There’s lots to take advantage of in Berwick, and over the next season I will be leading informative walks where we will meet edible spring greens, early summer flowers, and seaweed and coastal edibles.
Wild Hygge Dates and Booking
To book a spot at any of the Wild Hygge sessions, please email me directly on woodland-jo@outlook.com, or reply to this email if you are reading it from your inbox. The exchange is £12 per session; i operate a pay-it-forward model for my business, so by paying this amount you enable others on a low or no income to join the community too. If you have any need for a discount there is no need to tell me, just pay what you can. When you email to book i will send you my bank details, or you can let me know you’re bringing cash on the day.
See you round the fire
Jo
Nettles are growing nicely now. Must pick the tips and freeze them for future use in soups.
